"Angry Sierra" b&w version

This was crying to me, "Make me black, white and everything in between". Does this

work better than the color version? Thanks for any feedback!

First, let me start off that I am positively gobsmacked at the high quality of each of your postings; and that I definitely want to do a fall loop trip with you for the aspens! Each of your postings has just been stunning, and I am dedicating the next hour or so to slowly go through and savor each one. This photograph really appeals to me a lot. It is right up my alley, as you well know. Superb range of tones; and I think you've got all of Ansel's Zones in here too. Excellent composition! Well done, Mark! Cheers! Chris

 

P.S. This is one of my faves of your new stuff, and as such has taken residence in my Favorites collection.

Without a doubt, the black and white is better. Good choice to boost the contrast and blacks along the foreground ridge. This gives much needed separation from the background peaks as well as helping to create depth. The placement of tones throughout the image is excellent. I wouldn't even mind seeing the clear sky at the top of the frame darkened a little more to really let the tops of the thunderheads stand out.

Overall, great capture of one of my favorite skylines...

You got clouds! This is really a sweet shot and one heck of a conversion. AA would be proud of this one. Looks like your tonal ranges are right on and those clouds, oh those clouds...RAY
