leo burkey 0 Posted July 19, 2008 My buddy Chris Harris (Bear) and I hiked to to Gaylor Lake in Tuolumne Meadows before dawn to capture the lake at sunrise. It is a strenuous hike gaining about 800 feet in altitude. The lake sits at about 10,000 feet and was abuzz with thousands of mosquitoes. This was especially challenging for a 65 year old man with two hip replacements and one about to fail. I used a Canon 17-40mm f4 L series lens with no filters. Because of the large dynamic range I combined several images into an HDR file in Photomatix 3.0. Your comments are welcome. This was taken last week with my two Amigos Chris Harris and Ray Banfield during our annual photography excursion. Please view larger. Link to comment

lonebearimages 0 Posted July 19, 2008 Your really nailed this one, buddy! Excellent composition, and the color of the sky; with the bronze tones is nearly spot-on to the conditions we saw. The small pink flowers really give this some pop too. This is extremely artfully done! Woo-Woo! Cheers! Chris (The Bear) Link to comment

Christal1664882414 0 Posted July 20, 2008 I'm becoming a huge fan of your work, Leo. This is breathtaking! The colors and crispness are amazing, and it quite literally takes my breath away. This is giving me inspiration for our upcoming Glacier National Park trip. Sometimes you have to really work (hike some distance) for some of the spectacular less photographed scenery. The color variations are amazing too......and the fact that you've managed to juxtapose the triangular-shaped boulder in the front beneath the triangular peak of the reflection.....amazing work......and in fact, I'm marking this as one of my favorites right now! I'll look forward to your other postings. Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted July 21, 2008 Leo, this image alone probably makes the trip, the long hike and the tussle with an air mattress worth it! Amazing all around work of art. Knowing you, the uniformity with the distant peak and the foreground boulder was a planned juxtaposition and not serindipitous. This gets the priviledge of finding a home in my favorites folder. I do have a minor nit, however. I think another sharpening pass at web res could yeild slightly sharper edges, not necessary though. Bravo for this Leo! Link to comment
leo burkey 0 Posted July 21, 2008 Thank you all for the comments. Mark you think a little sharper and yes this did make the trip worth while as well as the hike. Glad to see you made it home with the mattress. It was a real pleasure meeting you and I will never forget those drumsticks and eggs! Link to comment
