Beautiful work ! This person can in accordance with her image only be an extraordinary person that it is a privilege to know. We others can only admire your photo.

Not to sound too 1950's, but she is one classy dame. Every photo you take of her exudes personality and charm, even the more melancholy ones. I was actually looking at your photos of her the other day, the ones with the bruised hand. Such a special soul.

Even though I have been very interested in still lifes and landscape of

late, influenced in no small measure by my experiences from this site,

there remains a very strong affinity in me for portraiture, and

consequently, a deep connection to these my early portraits, often

made on somewhat primitive equipment and under some challenging

lighting conditions. To me, they say more about me than the more

recent work. Jeanette worked at the English Department at Portland

State University in 1987 when I first approached her to pose for me. Our

first sessions was, regrettably, a horrible experience, as I mistakenly

poured photo flo into the jar, thinking it was fixer. Needless to say, the

images were ruined. Being the good sport she is, she agreed to pose

again, and in fact, we have maintained a friendship that has endured

over the years. This picture was taken at the PSU Art department in

2000, with light coming from an open window. Jeanette had quit her job

and was painting for a living. I had posted an earlier version of this

picture, but decided to manipulate the image further using a free version

of Dynamic Range HDR I downloaded off the web. As usual, thanks for

your time.

Pose and tone are very good; classic use of 'broad' light.

But, and I guess I'm in the minority here, her skin looks absolutely HORRID (esp. at the 'Larger' size). It looks like some awful skin disease--IMO neither accurate nor flattering. Don't know if it's the tone-mapping or some sort of Dragan-style effect, but FOR ME, it is completely off-putting. I will look at your folder, to see if this is common for you.

After looking: You have some WONDERFUL images in this folder and in your whole portfolio. Some of the portraits you show are absolute top-notch work. I wish I had shot any of them, but here I really don't like what you did.

My brother,

In a word, wow.

The image absolutely "reeks" of personality and drama. Not sure if that was your original intent, but that's the vibe I get. She also comes across as a strong & firm woman, yet with a soft inner core.

Wonderful work. As you said in the commentary, your old portraiture images certainly speaks volumes. This is one for the ages. A classic.

I always admired your forthrightness. Yes, looked at larger, it does leave a bit to be desired, but that was more because it had to be shrunken down considerably in image quality to meet pnet's server requirements. The opriginal scan from a 35 mm negative was saved at about 6,000 by 5,200 dpi. By the time it was shrunk to a 1,200 by 900 or so dpi, it lost a bit of quality. I wish there was a happier medium. Like I said, I appreciate your honesty.

Very nice portrait. I would say this is striking and I'm no expert but this is a well captured portrait. I see lesser quality on many magazine covers.

This is really nice, and I like the bit of light behind her.  Very evocative use of light.
