Donna Stavis 0 Posted July 9, 2008 The crop presentation is perfect. The colours against the cacti thistle fuzz are lovely. It reminds me of an underwater shot, the cacti like coral, etc Link to comment

Christal1664882414 0 Posted July 9, 2008 Thanks so much for your comment. It encouraged me to submit this to the critique forum. And I see that you also rated this, so thanks for returning to do that as well. This is a smoke bush. They're amazing bushes (actually a tree), and they're blooming now here in Indiana. It has almost an oriental feel to it. Link to comment
daved1 1 Posted July 9, 2008 I too thought this might be an underwater shot at first glance. Colors and contrast are very nice. Presented as it was, I'm sure. :) Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted July 9, 2008 Interesting that both you and Donna commented on this looking like it could be an underwater shot. Now that you mention it, I agree. But of course I had no idea about that at the time this was taken. I simply took a broad shot of a smoke tree and snooped around until I found a portion of it I liked. This was the end result. Glad you like it, and thanks for your comment and rating. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted July 10, 2008 I, too, thought this was an underwater shot. It's quite lovely with all the hints of pastel mingled in with the texture. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted July 11, 2008 Christal, I like it as well, it has a nice feeling of FG middle and BG. Good light and beautifull colors of the branches, nice pano form as well. Delicate. Link to comment

Christal1664882414 0 Posted July 16, 2008 Thanks, Donna. Nezif's page seems to be working properly now, although for at least 24 hours it was not accessible. Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted July 16, 2008 I THINK I take that as a compliment. :-) I'm always honored to have you look at my work, and very pleased when you enjoy it! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted July 20, 2008 Love the splash of colors among the browns and whites. Was this the top of the tree? Never heard of a Smoke Tree. You have a good eye for beauty. Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted July 20, 2008 Thank you, Diana. This was actually the middle of the tree. This was about the only patch of color. Most of the tree was the wispy feathery stuff (how do you like that technical term?). :) The color will get more vivid as fall approaches. There are many different cultivars of this tree (some call it a bush). So when you Google it you'll find trees that look very different from this one. But this tree can grow in most any climate, and it really is quite attractive if taken care of and pruned properly. Thanks for your comment and rating. I'll be visiting your portfolio again soon! lonebearimages 0 Posted July 20, 2008 This is gorgeous; and I see that I am not alone in seeing that. There is a really some incredible luminosity that is quite eye-catching in this photograph. A tack-sharp image with a wonderful color palette. This is some very good work, Christal; not only with the camera, but with your post-processing. Nicely done! Cheers! Chris Link to comment

rbanfield 0 Posted July 21, 2008 Gotta echo everything by Amigo Chris said. This is one great looking photograph and your lights and shadows are right on. Just beautiful post production including your tight cropping which really ROCKS!...RAY Link to comment
margaret1 0 Posted July 30, 2008 This is wonderful Christal. It has such a a pastel feel. I love visiting PN because I get to see things I never would have. We have all the water around us, and yet nothing like this. You have your very own above ground coral reef. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted July 30, 2008 I love the subtley of this composition. Great color and texture and an almost abstract feel to it. Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted August 1, 2008 I like your presentation as well as the profound delicacy that you've captured so well here. It has defintely a painterly feel about it which I think has everything to do with the light conditions you took this in. It seems you're quite capable of recognising a good photo when you see it. I find this a pleasure to look at. Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted August 4, 2008 Ray, I appreciate your praise of this photo, but YOU are the one who should be praised for your great shots from your recent trip. I haven't finished looking at all of them yet! Good to hear from you! Margaret, It does have an underwater look, doesn't it? I'd like to take credit for that, but it was pure happenstance. :) Kim, Thanks for your nice comment. You have such great work, and I'm flattered that you would spend time here! Ton, and to you, my friend, with regard to your comment 'seems you're quite capable of recognising a good photo when you see it'......thanks for your vote of confidence. I don't feel that way sometimes. There is so much good work here on PN (and elsewhere).....but I trod onward, and I WILL get better! :) Thanks for your support! Link to comment
trisha jean-angela 3 Posted November 26, 2009 Such beautiful color! I have never seen a smoke tree but I am sure they couldn't be this pretty! Amazing...just like a painting! Very well done. Thanks for sharing. :) Link to comment
