"The Frozen Throne"

A brilliant (and very cold) December morning in the Scottish Highlands.

After a long time of a completely hopeless weather there was a chance

for some long awaiting change. I was quite fortunate to be in the field

when it happened. In the background you can see one of the most

recognisable peaks here - famous Buachaille Etive Mor. Unfortunately

the whole area around is quite heavily explored, so it's quite difficult to

come up with a completely new composition. I think, however it's all

abour lighting conditions that makes a particular shot something more

than ordinary. I was trying to find some decent scene and was totaly

absorbed by these ice fringes on the river. Couldn't resist not taking this

shot :)

Lovely shot Piotr. You are right - the light does make this shot and having been in Scotland waiting for the light to change I can appreciate your composition all the more. Great work and keep them coming.

I think your objective to come up with a new composition is very well done. I love the composition and the stream leading in to the mountain. And the icy water and stones completes the image and makes it more interesting. Your photos of Scotland are just great!

Beautiful composition Piotr, almost identical to Highlands Icon by Joe Cornish except his was taken in portrait mode with an ebony field camera which works better for this scene as the landscape format takes attention away from Buachaille Etive Mor a little. Still, it's an excellent shot taken on a beautiful morning!

 

My rating reflects that of one who has seen an identical composition taken by the master himself, Joe Cornish and had you been rewarded with a more interesting sky, I would of possibly given this a 7 for Aesthetics.

Having seen the photo in his album ("First Light") I had this scene in my memory, trying to capture something similar. Unfortunately APS-C or even full-frames cameras, without tilt & shift lenses doesn't allow to play with perspective so much like medium or large format ones.

 

Anyway - I am quite happy with that. Maybe some day I'll return there with a different gear :)

You can feel the crisp air in this photograph. The early (late?) light is marvellous on the grass. Your photo shows why this is such a magic place.

I too, have found many locations through that book piotr and occasionally taken more or less identical compositions. It's an excellent book of which all his follow up's have failed to present his work in such detail and clarity. Was at this location a couple of months ago but I almost got eaten alive by midges! Next time I will be armed with Skin so soft :D
