laverephoto 0 Posted July 8, 2008 I could write a very disorganized book! I will start by saying I have a 400 w/s strobe on a stand that is ready to go most of the day. It is a lot of extra work, but it pays off very often. The other thing that is most useful is my "black blanky", a dark cloth I use to view the lcd screen on my camera outdoors. As for balancing, it is different depending on the light for each shot. In this case the sun was over the shoulder to the left of the subject. I did two test shots to get the sky and clouds to look rich (iso 100@1/250 f.11) At that point the subjects were dark shadows. I then placed a strobe on a stand with a standard reflector about 3 paces from the subject and almost exactly opposite the angle of the sun. I estimated the manual setting for the strobe. I took a couple test shots and adjusted the power until the blinkers on the dress were ALMOST gone. I also angled the strobe head up a little to feather it off the ground. Look at the shadows on the ground: one is from the sun and one is from my strobe. I really think using the screen quickly to test the different light sources is a huge help, so I use that dark cloth all the time outside. Link to comment
