markboyer 0 Posted June 23, 2008 Well I'm not sure what it is or what you did, but it's dramatic and quite striking. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted June 23, 2008 Very little was done; it's the etched glass of my front door. The blue is the sky and the gold is the grassy field across the street. I bumped up the saturation a bit and that was all. It reminded me of ice on glass. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted June 24, 2008 I was about to ask if it's not ice then what is it. But you answered for me! :-) I love the colors behind it. I love your eye for stuff like this, Kim! Enjoy your trip!! Take some scenery shots along the way, please!! Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted June 24, 2008 Very cool and creative shot! I would never have guessed what this is. This is a perfect example of what I keep trying to tell myself.....I don't have to go to exotic places to capture great shots. I just need to put my 'creative hat' on! Bravo on this! I read that you're from BC originally. We're heading there this summer (and to Alberta), and will be going LOTS more in the future. My daughter married a guy from Calgary, and they'll soon be moving there permanently. :( Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted June 24, 2008 Will be taking lots of pictures if the weather cooperates, Lou Ann. Christal - the distance is hard, but it allows for some great trips to visit. Hope you can go through Jasper/Banff - beautiful area and lots of opportunities for pictures. Link to comment
home page1 0 Posted June 26, 2008 Very creative and well seen, Kim. Nice colors and lines. BTW, I'll be going to Banff in August. Any photographic tips? Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted June 26, 2008 Ken - you probably want to take a variety of lenses because the scenery is gorgeous, but there are also lots of opportunities to get wildlife shots. It will get light early, so you'll have to get up really early to get the best light. The tourists will be horrendous in August, so you'll have to avoid getting them in the shots. Oh, and buffalo can jump fences, so don't assume they are safe to get close to! Link to comment
home page1 0 Posted June 26, 2008 I'm not a morning person but I can get the same results with sundown. Taking a variety of lenes can be problematic these days with the restrictive recent carry-on policies of the the airlines, especailly Northwest. I'm going to investigate the option of shipping some lenses to my Banff hotel destination. Any opinion on that? Link to comment
joe-tury 0 Posted June 26, 2008 Very artsy Kim! Definitely has the look of a cold morning. Link to comment

kslonaker 0 Posted June 26, 2008 Ken, I'd personally be leery about sending camera equipment separately. I'd probably be more inclined to do carry-on with it and just keep it minimal - camera and maybe two lenses; something to download images to. When I flew to Canada last year, I took a carry-on with laptop, camera, 28-105, 50-500 lenses, flash, and battery charger. I still had room in the bag for a few other non-photography related items. Mail to Canada is flaky, so if you are going that route, do Fed-Ex or UPS and not postal. Even with a trace and insurance, good luck getting anything replaced if it's lost! Thanks for visiting, everyone - this was a simple shot. I liked the way it resembled something it wasn't. Link to comment

Guest Guest Posted June 28, 2008 Very well seen. Beautiful etched glass and your intuition in terms of color is wonderful. It's amazing how household elements can come alive with the right angle, lighting, and a creative temperament to see it. Link to comment
