Surfboard Fence

This is an experiment with Photoshop. You can find the original of this in my portfolio in the 'Just for Fun' folder. I wanted to try my hand at getting rid of the pole sticking up in the middle of the surfboards. It was pretty intricate to erase because there were so many colors involved. Can you tell where it was done? Or do you have any other suggestions to improve this shot? I thought about cropping the white board off of the right side. Thanks for your help!

I would never have known that you removed the pole if you hadn't pointed it out. Having said that, I have to tell you that I can see the marks in the sky now that you've pointed them out. It's SO difficult to get rid of things like that. Were you using the "clone" tool? I'd be interested to hear your approach. For someone who's saying that she's experimenting with this kind of post-processing, I'd say you're doing a great job!

As far as the white board on the right, why did you want to crop it out? It's a bit bright compared to the rest of the shot, but not so much that it bothers me. The balance in the composition works well. When I look at the image, I start at the tip of the white board in the top right and my eye goes along the tips of the boards toward the middle left and then follows toward the foreground along the green path on the left. It seems to work well for me! :-)

I used the rubber stamp tool, and I had to keep resetting it to different colors as I worked my way down.....even had to do different colors in the sky because of the clouds. It was a tedious procedure, and I'm sure there must be a better way of doing it. When it comes to computers, leave it to me to find the most complicated way of doing something! LOL As for the white surfboard, it's just SO bright.....it's ok to leave it in though....it's not as if I'm going to be framing this to put on my wall. I'll wait until I move to California to do that! J/K Thanks for your input on this.....I appreciate it!

I have fun answering specific questions like you asked here. I believe that there is a way to bring down bright areas like your white board here. I simply don't know how to do it. Look up how the dodge/burn tools are used ... that might be it....

Just thought I would have a look at your stuff after writing a lengthy response on your home page and came across this image. I have to say that it is one of the most original shots that I have seen lately.....who every heard of a surf board fence ? What a great idea.... I love it. Is this in Hawaii ? At any rate great shot and thanks for sharing. Looking forward to checking out the rest of your stuff tomorrow. Best to you and thanks again, Ron Dobbs

Thanks.....glad you like this shot. I made my husband stop in the middle of the road......I hopped out and quickly grabbed this picture with my point and shoot camera. Very clever of this home-owner. Yes, this could only be in Hawaii......Maui! :) It's a wonderful place with many delightful and somewhat eccentric people. :)

great stuff can be found if you know how to see. You can, obviously. Thanks also for leaving such a nice comment under my portfolio. It's very much appreciated.

btw I just checked out your original. In a case like this I would advise the patch tool. Much easier, much faster than the rubber stamp tool

Thanks for the suggestion. Leave it to me to find the slowest way to utilize computer programs! :) I use Photoshop Elements 4, and I don't find a stamp tool. Unless it's also called something else, I don't have it in any of my PS4 books either. Eventually I'll upgrade to a more deluxe editing program, but I won't do that until I get a new computer......and we're trying to make this one last a while longer. What program do you use?
