Thanks Mary, this is one event that I look forward to photographing every year. You would think after 3 years I would have had my fill of it, but the sky and light is always different, and of course the pilots and crews are always so nice. Regards, and thanks again....LJ

Lovely skies and a great photo of a balloon at liftoff. Next year see if you can get a closeup of the basket, flames and the very-lower portion of the balloon just after it as lifted off. You would have to be much closer to get a good closeup.

PS, I too would return year after year to see this event.

Yeah Shawn it would make a great shot, however there were factors keeping me from getting a shot like that, and I wanted to include more of the evening sky in relation to the entire balloon. I have a few shots from almost directly underneath from previous years visits included in this folder. Thanks so much for stopping by, always fun to hear from you. Regards....LJ

Love this, Lesa. Not night and not day.....makes for wonderful lighting. Love how one man in the basket is lit up! Texture of the balloon is fantastic.

I really like this Lesa; it's different from the usual balloon shot. I like the darkness with the only light part lit by the flame. Great sky as well

very nice balloon shot. original. i like the muted colors and the way the balloon is lit by the fire against the gray sky.

do you think the grayness of the sky brings out the pinks in the balloon? to me, gray brings out pink hues. its an old gardening trick: put your pink roses against a gray background.

Lovely silky tones and textures, great sky, could do with a little more illumination on the balloon but beautiful shot. Regards

Thanks to all for the comments and suggestions. This balloon was probably 30ft off the ground when the image was made handheld, and I did used my pop up flash to try and capture a little more color and "shininess" of the balloon material. I think the dramatic clounds, colors of the balloon and the flame are what makes the image. Thanks so much again to everyone stopping by. Regards....LJ
