Post Sunset Depression

ian cameron

I have always maintained that Moray has some of the best sunsets anywhere in the UK and on this particular evening it was wonderful. This is actually an hour after sunset about 10.45pm on a late May evening. Despite the title, which is obviously a play on words, a play on every word in fact, I cant imagine a less depressing scene. The smooth tonal transition from blue to red and the sweeping curves and bowls was a sheer delight to my eyes. Tis a pity the group I was instructing decided to return so soon after sunset. This is probably my favourite this year. Pentax 67 II ,55-100 zoom,Fujichrome Velvia Polariser, + 4 stop ND filter + 2 stop hard ND grad, f/27 at 70 sec's. NEW!! Exquisite! Stunning but still full of nuance and subtlety. I particularly like the way the details in the sand vanish as your eye moves away from the foreground.

Amazing Photo. It looks simple and minimalist but not to much. The composition is perfect and so are the delicate colors. I also like the line betwwen the sea and the sand. A very calm atmosphere. Congratulations and regards.

I like this photo very much: simplicity, colour and overall feeling of calmness. Very enjoyable. In terms of possible improvements, I would suggest that the stump in the foreground seems a litle bit underexposed. There is not a lot of detail there. I think that it would benefit from a touch of light. Also (and it is a very minor thing) the horizon appears to be a bit tilted.

Nevertheless, this is a very nice picture. I'd rate it: 6/6.
