hanna_cowpe 0 Posted June 9, 2008 Shot wide open and I'm not sure there's an acceptable amount in focus. Your contribution is appreciated. Link to comment
bkris 0 Posted June 9, 2008 Hanna--I can never seem to get this type of shot right (the wide open aspect). I think you pretty much nailed it. The subtle hues of purple/blue look great, and you managed to put the focal point in the right place. If I could offer any critique, it would be that I'd like to see the yellow a bit brighter to offer some contrast from the subdued background. Great work. -Brad Link to comment

sonneland 0 Posted June 10, 2008 Hanna, with these type of images I don't think focus is so important, this is a wonderful image, with a story all of its own. Nice work, well done! All the best.......roger Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted June 10, 2008 Brad, you may be right about bringing out the yellow. This kind of shot seems to work best when lit from behind, hence the subdued colour. I shot this with a 50mm macro set at 2.8 using manual focus. Moving toward and away from the subject until the focus hits on an acceptable spot is the way I do it. I do this handheld because I find a tripod is a pain and reduces the creative aspect. But with such a shallow depth of focus it is easy to lose the sharpness on the desired spot. This one could have been sharper. Thankyou for your response, and thankyou Roger and Jaoao. Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted June 10, 2008 Another beautiful one. There is about 3 square centimeters sharp and all the rest blurred, and yet it is perfect to my eyes. Link to comment

cherlyn 1 Posted June 12, 2008 The softness in focus & depth is a lovely touch here, plus the pastel colour tones really give this a flourishing sense of love & romance. Link to comment

jeffl7 0 Posted June 14, 2008 There's always this sense of spring suddenly exploding into color. This has a very active feel, as if the flower has suddenly burst open. Almost as if it's saying, "I can't stand it anymore--I gotta be me!" Link to comment

gordonjb 10,860 Posted July 4, 2008 I think the amount of focus is perfect. I do not think that having any precise and sharp lines in here would be an improvement. The arc created by the two petals which are sharpest and fall on the same plane of focus do wonders for the composition, nicely framing the remainder of the central flower. The buds and bits and pieces of bloom add a sense of depth. A very enjoyable image to look at. Link to comment
