michelle_osborn1 0 Posted May 4, 2002 Awesome Rick. Great work with the high contrast images. His expression is so very interesting and I love the way the dark shadows outline the lip without obscuring it at all. To me, the low placement of Brenden represents the way he might see himself as a little guy surrounded by big people. Link to comment
rick vincent 1 Posted May 4, 2002 This boy amazes me with his expressions. His name is Brenden and he is one of my favorite subjects. This shot is a crop from an earlier submission in my "favorite photos" folder. The contrast has been enhanced to focus more attention on his priceless expression. I ask that you share your comments, ratings, and critique. Thank you, Rick. Link to comment

mircea_strugaru 0 Posted May 6, 2002 The photography technique (visualizing, composing and exposing the picture) should be only a tool for making a good picture. The picture must represent the subject and the photographer alike and NOT some stiff set of exposure and composition rules. The picture above however has the "whole package": * Beautifully composed and exposed *Natural, candid and funny expression of the subject * The feeling that the photographer and the subject have a bond between them You can see that Rick shot this picture with his camera but also with his heart! Great job... Link to comment

rick vincent 1 Posted May 7, 2002 One of my first thoughts was "train conductor." I was wondering if anyone else would pick up on that. It's the denim hat that does it. Mircea, You bring up a great point about the bond between Brenden and I. When I first started shooting, he was a little stand-offish and was always crawling away from me. He seemed intrigued once I got on the ground and started crawling around on my elbows. All of a sudden I wasn't this big scary grown-up anymore. I think he thought I was a playmate. That's when he started giving me the best poses. In this photo he was in the comfort of his mothers arms, but he still seemed interested in the guy with the camera. Link to comment
marios_koufaris 0 Posted May 7, 2002 Great expression. The cropping alone deserves the 9 for originality. The vast blackness seems to be what's causing the boy to look so scared or bewildered. Link to comment
c._k._nakagawa 0 Posted May 22, 2002 I didn't see the original, but this is a fantastic portrait. The expression is, as others have noted, priceless. The shadowing enhances it, adding to his somewhat worried and anxious look. Great job. Link to comment
ken_chi 0 Posted May 24, 2002 this is one of the shots that has a life of its own... great cropping, proportion of the crop is in harmony with the face... expression priceless... great tones... hang it up on the wall yet? This folder is one of my favourites Link to comment
alisamudge 0 Posted May 26, 2002 Ok, This is just priceless. That expression is hillarious ! Then you add the arsty touch by surrounding him in black and putting him in the corner. Very originally done. Link to comment
mani_varadarajan 0 Posted July 30, 2002 Rick, I love this picture too. How did you get such a dark background, and yet have his face so brightly lit? Link to comment
washington_maya 0 Posted December 28, 2002 I love this vertical shoot and where your subject is placed. I'm still new to photography. How did you get the background pitch black? was it in photoshop? phlipgirlie@netscape.net Link to comment
