Three Holes

In the ghost town of Ruby, Arizona, there is an old school house on the hill. This triple-seater is behind the school. Apparently the kids got to have all the luxury. :-)

 

This is a "blend" of two layers. I took a shot in which the sky was nicely exposed, but the outhouse was very, very underexposed - used ACR to create two different "exposures" of the shot, one similar to the original, and another exposed for the outhouse. Using each "exposure" in two different layers and the eraser tool in Photoshop, I created an image that I like the exposure of all of the elements.

Good job blending... I don't think I would have noticed without your explanation since there appears to be plenty of foreground light. The little touch of pink flowers really adds the final touch to this capture... Mike

 

 

Well done, Lou Ann. Layering exposures is sometimes difficult and you have done it quite well. Did you try saturating the red channel to bring out the color of the flowers?

Thanks, all, for the comments. Richard - it was quite easy to do the layers, as cs3 has lots of great tools, like auto-align. It practically does the work for you. It was the erasing that was a bit tough - but I used a mask to create the selection. Anyway - I didn't use the red channel anything - because it never occurred to me. In fact, on the photo of the slide, I used the saturate dialogue box to select the exact color from the flowers to boost the saturation in that shot, but never thought to do so on this one. (sigh....) :-D
