Another scene, of a Chlems story...

here

A paraphrase of the story ...

Four Chelms went to swim in the lake. after getting out of the water one of them decided to count them to see if everybody is there. He counted 3 of them , but not himself, so they have decided that one of them has drowned .....;-))

Thanks , I hope you will enjoy it.

Wonderful warm tones. I like the detail of the ladder. It looks like some pygmy is about to arrive... Regards, my dear.

Really nice, Pnina and funny, too. Makes me want to pick up one of my I.B. Singer short story books. Best regards. Amitai

I love the warm glow (the warmth with the water is particularly pleasing) in the entire series and the circular composition, a camaraderie of Chelmites. Your photography brings forth the charm as opposed to only humour. You elevate these character from fools to community members who together are trying to figure out how the world works, and in this way, bridge from particular to universal.

Thanks both of you for seeing the charm I saw in this play.

Donna, interesting evaluation, I like your interpretation. What is usualy said , that in every humour there is something of the truth...

Pnina - I know that I don't usually comment on your dance/theater images. It's mostly because I have absolutely no experience in doing that kind of shooting.

Having said that, I really DO want to point out the fact that, because I do a lot of music and thus spend a lot of time in "theater" settings, I KNOW that the lighting is extremely difficult - as are often the personalities. You do SO well with each. Your ability to work in these low lighting settings is exceptional. And you always capture wonderful moments on the stage. This is one of my favorite of your stage images. Fantastic!

Love the little ladder..............

Amazing. There are so many levels of this, it would take many paragraphs to really explore it. Fortunately, it also speaks (with your help) for itself quite well.

Ton, even it looks good on my monitor, I reduced a tiny bit the contrast... Thanks

Lou Ann, as I photographed on stage musicians as well, I don't think there is a difference between music and dance on the show, I mean the lights and actions( even different of course in nature), and I don't think you need different parameteres to evaluate theatre photography from other subjects, it still needs the composition, lights, colors , dof, timing, post processing etc...Thanks for your nice feedback, I too liked the tiny ladder......;-))

David, it is a well known part of our folkloric heritage, I'm glad you enjoy it, thanaks so much.

You've really captured the magic of good stage lighting here. A fine composition as well. Warm regards...

This entire series is fantastic! They are all so surreal. The lighting is well done by the lighting director and you have captured and interpreted the scene wonderfully. I love how the slightly brighter and whiter light falls on the ladder leading into the lake. The tiny size of the ladder coupled with the fact that the lake is a wash basin, plus your back story about the absurd mathematics, makes me understand how wild and crazy these stories must be.

Thanks, glad you liked the series, I loved so much doing it....the absurdity , sense of humour, folkloric heritage of ours, and the production skills it was done with.

It is a long play, completely " crazy",I chose the scene I could identify with and interpret it in my own way. I appreciate your comment ,Gord.

I am not familiar with this story at all but I find this to be a facinating, dramatic image. It is well composed, the colours warm and inviting. I love the head gear, especially the little tea pot. Wonderful!
