Good Poster. I mage is crisp and leaves the viewer in no doubt what goes on here without the text addition. I agree, the problem lies squarely with people.

Bill, one question are you and your friends and family all vegetarians, or are you carnivorous like him!

He will never forget how to hunt, just because you have, don't take that out on him. If a disaster hits he won't go hungry, but you will!

He will never be dependent on just you to feed him. You need to look at this cat and understand it is why everything exist. humans are loosing theirs, hence all the conflict.

Retailers know how dependent we have become look around, it is not progress (diesel) is $5.00 a gallon and requires less than half the work of gasoline to refine, what is going on!

If I were you I would worry about that, you need to buy all your food! have a nice day. Nice image, great job with the DOF.

How do you know the cat isn't feral? Don't you want to have predators to control overpopulated species? Do you give your cat 'vegan' cat food? Cats adapted to live with humans because humans stored grain, which provided a ready source of vermin for the cats to eat. Yes, we should get our pets 'fixed' so they do not reproduce uncontrolled, but let the carnivore have her/his meat.

Oh yeah, the title is absurd. Animals can't commit murder.

I was referring to the owner. and as for it being anthropomorphic! I can tell you are a pussy,

Many humane societies and rehabilitation centers doing education, quote the following for a country-wide estimate of the impact of owned cats on birds. Richard Stallcup of the Point Reyes Bird Observatory estimated that of the 55 million domestic cats in the US, excluding Hawaii and Alaska, some 10% never go outside, and another 10% are too old or slow to catch anything. Of the remaining 44 million, a conservative estimate is that 1 in 10 cats kills a bird a day - this would yield a daily toll of 4.4 million birds - or 1.6 billion cat-killed birds in the US each year. ["Cats take a heavy toll on songbirds / A reversible catastrophe," Observer, Spring/Summer 1991, 18-29, Point Reyes Bird Observatory; Native Species Network, Vol 1 Issue 1, Fall 1995.] Research has shown that rural cats, with more wildlife contact, kill many more, with the result that the feral cat population, most of which is rural, has an even more significant impact on the bird population. Alley Cat Allies estimates that there are 60 million feral cats in the United States. Combining feral and domestic cat predation, it is estimated that more than 3 billion birds are killed annually.

Buy his G.D. food as you buy yours and leave the wildlife alone!

I don't blame the Cat I blame the owner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is a photography place, not a political/activist forum, or a let's make a poster site...

that being said, this is a 4/4 shot. deeper DOF would have enhanced the image.

BTW did you actually see this cat kill that li'l critter? maybe it found it dead and has a new toy. either way, that's what animals do. depending on where you live, the kitty is fairly low on the food chain anyways.

and what exactly would you jail the owner for?

Violations of the MIGRATORY BIRD TREATY ACT and The ENDANERED SPECIES ACT, A pet owner is responsible for the actions of the pet. Would you sing a different song if I owned a Tiger for a pet and let it run free to eat your children?

I am one of those owners that lets his cats run free! Beautiful picture by the way. For years my garden was devastated by gofers eating the berry's and biting chunks out of my tomatoes, the rabbits, of course were much more damaging to everything including the cabbage. after trying fences of various designs and heights I was about to give up. Then one winter A feral cat showed up at the bird feeder and caught a shrew that was one less problem. I spent a year coaxing that cat and its friends by leaving food and water out. Now after eight years the cat lives in my garage and her great great granddaughter guards my garden every summer. Now I do not need any fence and can plant cabbage any where and it is not touched. I recommend cats to all my gardening friends. I can't wait for the first sign of spring... a dead baby bunny at my back door!!

Nice pic, but I'd give it a bit more room on the left. Around here the crows are a real bother, and we have way too may sparrows (not native to America). Rodents such as mice and rats can be very destructive and carry diseases. Rabbits and squirrels too have few predators since coyotes and non-domestic cats have practically been eliminated. Chances are good that the outdoor domestic cat is eating from the non-native or out of control animal population rather than a native songbird. Many of these other creatures probably cause more harm to song birds than cats ever will.
