Sand Waves

ian cameron

The sand flats at Applecross are actually not quite as flat as you might think they are heavily textured into rippled lines by the pull of the sea and have been pulled into large shallow depressions and equally shallow domes. Add to this a lofty viewpoint still water beneath a grey sky and the fact that the sand is surprisingly red and it becomes a recipe for a fine natural sculpture. I was very happy to try and make some sort of artistic sense of it with my camera. NEW!! Photographic Courses at TRANSIENT LIGHT.

Might be a bit pretentious for fine art but nature is the sculptor I merely

abstracted the bit that appealed to me... Please view LARGE it

improves with scale.

The textures are very appealing, I just wonder about the vertical whitish streaks mainly in the left part of the image, are these scanning artifacts ?

Hi Peter no its a vertical path covered in snow that is reflected from the hillside behind the beach. The hill is responsible for the black outlines around the scalloped shaped depressions but alas I couldn't lose the path's reflection. I will probably do this in the Spring and see if I can lose it rather than get rid of it by means of Photoshop - just my personal preference.
