Nice shot, too bad you couldn't get it on 35mm film or MF. It looks like you burned the outside edges ala Ansel to increase the depth.

Dennis this is a gorgeous image. I would love to see it and compare it with the one taken with your 35

The slides came in yesterday and I caught the scene well, as I bracked it a lot and used fill flash etc. But viewing it on the web at 72dpi I don't think there will be much difference once I work the slide like I did the digital shot. But with the slide scanned at 4000 dpi and printed out at as wide as my 1270 will let me with roll paper the differnce will be night and day. I use my Nikon 990 mostly as a point and shot for snap shots and such. But more and more I am finding it very help full to work with my 35mm and med format backing up the same shot with it. So that I have feedback right away and can start playing with the image and find a way I want to take it before the film comes back. Its and hour and a half drive to Anchorage to have my film procssed and they mail it back to me.

Often when I try to capture this kind of image, I am later disappointed. Usually this is because I failed to compensate for automatic overexposure, and sometimes because of the dramatic range of contrasts. After so many failures I am pleased to see that someone can accomplish the task. I am also chagrinned to see that even experienced photographers bracket exposure. I presume the fill flash on the 35mm film brought out more the dark forground. I spent some time looking though your portfolio, well worth it.

Shades of AA's "Clearing Winter Storm"

Composition is beautiful. The snow in the foreground looks a little "muddy" to me but it leads the viewer's eye right to the center of the photo.

Well done!
