This is a beautiful image and you are to be commended. Now don't shoot the messenger here - I am offering an artistic opinion which may be totally in left field. If I had to change anything, I would want the green and yellow portions in the middle to be more brightly lit and a little less light on the lower left white portion. You might try the shadow/highlight command in PS CS to make that change. Another idea even though I have never tried this , would be to bring a reflector or a small flashlight and shine it either below or above the flower here. This of course is all based on whether you want to make the image slightly different. All the very best and just some thoughts.

First: You never need to apologize for offering me your help. It's s a privilege for me to have. Always, from anyone.

Regarding this image, I agree with your suggestion. I even tried to do what you said, before I posted it. I couldn't get it to look better, so I left it as is. It needed better light, which I didn't have. This flower is a hard one to work with. But it's my favorite in the whole world. I will stand by what I posted.

Thank you for taking your time to comment. I'm so grateful.

I'm glad I don't have to chose a favorite of your Magnolia pictures! This one is so lovely and passionate, like the others, but in yet a different way. I very much like the strong contrast between the very bright, actually blown out petal (it works here) and the very subtle illumination of the pistils and stamens. They look like they're in a cup and about to spill over the edge. I can see how you would possibly want them to be a bit brighter (maybe a touch of dodging would work?) but I really don't think they need any change. The depth and detail are there, and the lighting helps, IMO, to underscore the complexity of the flower. A beautifully rendered image.

dear liz

Please accept my apology to continue this discussion on the inner element to be brighter or otherwise.

I think every photographer has his way to work on the image what appears best to him/her. However, I did a quick and rough PS on the image and as I expected and as Tony remarked, the image does look better if the inner element was brighter.

thank you for your understanding and accept my compliments on the beautifully composed image.

best wishes
