whydangle 0 Posted May 27, 2008 Thanks Ray. This was my pic for the day. Something about the DOF and the detail of the flower that makes this work for me. Thanks for concuring! Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted May 27, 2008 A flower holds on to life in anticipation of a cooling drink. While imminent on the horizon, it would not come to fruition on this day. Thanks for your time and thoughts. Please view larger! Link to comment

naturegirl99 0 Posted May 27, 2008 I like that the jimsonweed blooms and the rocks lead me meandering through to the sunrays in the background. Nice composition. Beauty! Link to comment
maria75 0 Posted May 27, 2008 It is an exceptional image, from all points of view. And the others revealed its best qualities. I only just want to say...congrats! Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted May 27, 2008 A tough choice between this and "Flourished Among the Parched"... just love the minute details visible here. Good shot... Mike Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted May 27, 2008 Thanks Steve, Anthony, Nancy, Maria Maria and Mike for stopping in! This was taken above the central valley (the southern San Joaquin valley) near Bakersfield. This is a dry region and I find it astounding to see some of the plant life that can endure these conditions. I collaberated with my esteemed colleague Christopher Harris to bring you these images of this region. OK, lets just say we got together for some friendly shooting. I hope you will take some time to visit SoCal Chris' portfolio to view his take. His images are compelling and provide a fresh perspective, a unique approach to conveying this often overlooked ecosystem. Link to comment
lonebearimages 0 Posted May 27, 2008 After going back and forth between your images from this shoot; I do believe that this is the "cream of the crop." The detail you've managed to capture in this 'down-low' composition is just exquisite; including the holes created in the locoweed flower by the bugs. I really like the scattered few stems of dried fiddleneck flower standing up above the horizon too. Boy did we get lucky with the light! A spectacular image, Mark; one of your best from Bear Mountain! Thanks for the great ham and cheese sandwich too ;>) Cheers! Chris Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted May 29, 2008 Dynamic and dramatic shot! Incredible DOF, and I love the low angle at which you've shot this. Bravo! Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted May 29, 2008 Thanks Chris and Christal. This was my second composition of the day. I chose this datura flower because it was facing the camera. What a ham. There was a little protection from the wind which allowed me to extend the exposure time and increase my DOF. The dried up fiddlenecks was kind of a bonus. Link to comment
frank_sines 0 Posted February 19, 2011 I was just going through my favorites and realized that I had not commented on this photo when I rated it. What a lesson this is on how to create a spectacular photo. Some of us play around with filters and some are masters. Wonderful image. FS Link to comment
