Dave, it has to be seen large! the light on her face and red hair is very nice ,as well as her gaze of anticipation. For me the R side can be cropped a bit more like a square format ( Jack will probably contradict me again....;-)), but that is what I think.

I like the flowers and ribbons around her and the red BG. You have a way with children Dave, it is a sweet photo.

David, what a beautiful child! i love the light here and the carnival of color both in the wreath of flowers in the girl's hair and the bg. i like the background on the right...it makes me think of a kaleidescope, and for me the blurred background complements the brilliance of the lhs of the image.

Thanks. As you can tell, I have already cropped away some of the right side because, while it does provide some information about the overall milieu in which the image is set, it is boring. I'm not a huge fan of square format, but I'll admit I debated that one in my mind for quite some time. And I'm still open to that suggestion. The other thing that bothered me was the bright red background behind her. I was in fear that it took away too much from this little girl. But I think she holds her own pretty well.

Thanks so much. I was just commenting on some of the features you mention, and it's interesting to see that you have a slightly different take than Pnina. I guess that just goes to show how different we all are. I don't know this young lady, as she was just sitting there while I was doing my obligatory parade pics.

What a fine candid portrait, Dave. I love the intensity of her gaze. Nice color and composition. Warm regards...

Only one rating? Seriously? This is such a wonderful picture. There is a complexity on her little face. Dressed in pink and ribbons, her face doesn't have the wonderment that one would expect of a princess at a parade. Although some anticipation is there, she also has a hint of growing, um, cynicism(?) for lack of a better word. I love the distant crowd and the barren street. Most people would just photograph the parade. You captured the experience of it. The trumpet and drums and commotion gradually getting louder.

Thanks. I don't think it is on par with your fine portraits, but I'm trying to learn to do them better.

Yeah, it didn't draw much attention. I think it does have some compositional flaws, as has been pointed out. But how could I not find the girl with her flowers, colorful dress and red hair, to be a charmer?

Compositional flaws? Pshaw. You can't crop out the right side. Where would the parade march by? (Sorry, Pnina).

that anticipating look tells it all. You've captured it well. No critique but I wonder if a b&w wouldn't bring out the essence a bit more (I know, that red hair)
