Fortunately now the winter is over but still I remember the freezingfingers when I shot this photo. For me it was a short while out in thecold. But for them it is their life. They have my admiration.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Karl

Great documentary capture. Is it part of a series or body of work? Seems like there is a story to go along with it. Is there?

Too often photogs make work about themselves. This is about what is beyond the lens, and it becomes great because the moment is right, the composition is right, and the colors and tones are right. This is a well thought out connection to your subject. Again great work. Keep it up.

These must be some very hardy beasts to be able to survive in this environment. You would have found me in the center of the pack where it has to be the warmest.

A very nice panoramic shot Karl!8~)#

I love how thy are crowded together, to preserve a bit the temperature in this bitter cold surrounding. Perfect composition as panoramic, and very good the subdued colors. Hats off, your work is first class !

Karl,

Fantastic lifestyle portrait and the soft subtle colors are perfect for the starkly beautiful landscape. Your artistic choice of presenting this as a panorama composition really emphasizes the wide open loneliness and strength of the people that live there. Wonderful image!

thank you all for your thoughts about this photo. Was there anything to eat? This is the question. Last winter I was traveling by plane from Ulaanbaatar to the west of Mongolia. The whole country was covered by a thin layer of snow. Everywhere there were strange drawings in the snow. These were the footprints of the herds roaming around for food. What they find is very little to eat. The goats eat the roots of the grass. Drastically increasing desertification is the major environmental problem of Mongolia. Fourty million animals in a country with 2.6 million inhabitants. Several hundred thousend animals will die every winter from cold and hunger. In strong winters they die in millions. Some say hungry animals produce the finest quality of wool. Cashmere wool is the backbone of the the rural economy of Mongolia. Karl
