This is Terry the Boatwright, a philosopher who just happens to make a

meager living working on work and pleasure boats at a semi-obscure

boat yard on the West Coast. Your ratings and critiques are invited and

most welcome. If you rate harshly or very critically, please submit a

helpful and constructive comment; please share your superior

photographic knowledge to help improve my photography. Thanks!

Enjoy! John

I think the BW tones are a little weak but the overall composition is great

perhaps more light in the face

He's backlighted, and I don't use flash or reflectors or any of that stuff for my available light stuff; and I also don't Photoshop to death. I could work this up more but then it might look like everyone else's.

I prefer it like it is, to showcase his expression. Someone said this man has a very bad disease, but I am unsure . . . he's a passing friend and very, very friendly to me and a 'street' philosopher par excellence who appeared in an early photo in my color portfolio -- 'Bum Or Artist -- You Decide' with a boat behind him and a decaying cigarette in his hand -- he's always been exceedingly cooperative with me and I've casually known him for four years now, and I enjoy him immensely.

And I think he enjoys my visits also; as my early PN photo was posted at the boatyard for several years.

So, I could work this one to death, but really, as you said, it's the expression, silly, (in the manner of Clinton, who said in the first presidential race, 'it's the economy, stupid' . . . a 'message' which got him the presidency.

So you are right about the tones, but I think that working them to death is superfluous and might be contrary to the best for this photograph -- I'll let someone else work it up to show me how I'm wrong.

Thanks so much for commenting.
