myattphotoandfotoart39 1 Posted May 17, 2008 It is a little out of balance meaning too much weight on the right, even looks like the photo is tilting that direction. Still all of the good things make up for it. Link to comment
myattphotoandfotoart39 1 Posted May 17, 2008 I rated and commented and did not realize it was you until I returned to the forum. She is so much like the others in that folder. Link to comment
dberryhill 3 Posted May 17, 2008 The fact that you didn't know makes your rate and comment even more meaningful. I kept more of the right in the scene to keep her off center. Maybe that wasn't necessary. As for the tilt, you're right, and I can correct that. Thanks! I eat often at the restaurant where she works. She's a gentle, bright, lovely young woman. I enjoy photographing her. I am more aware of tonal range in black and whites as a result of your prior comments. I'm always grateful that you take the time to critique my pictures. Link to comment
myattphotoandfotoart39 1 Posted May 17, 2008 Myself, I THINK I would not fix the tilt. It does not change the picture. It adds to the human touch. Link to comment
jcpopper 0 Posted May 18, 2008 Another excellent portrait for your wonderful collection, Doug. Warm regards... Link to comment
dberryhill 3 Posted May 18, 2008 I'd give your critique a 7/7, and I am very grateful for the encouragement. Actually, I had an exhibit last fall along the lines you suggest. although on a smaller scale. The Appalachian Center at the local college had an exhibit entitled "A Sense of Place", focusing on photographs of the local area. It included about 30 of mine, with both portraits and documentary landscapes. I had all sorts of insecurities about it, but the pictures seemed to have been received well by students and the community. I live and work in this small community. So, if I'm going to take pictures, this is where they have to be taken. I hope to continue, and at least leave a record, as you mentioned. Link to comment
dberryhill 3 Posted May 18, 2008 Joe, your continued tolerance of my pictures is admirable and much appreciated. Link to comment
human images 4 Posted June 6, 2008 I easily connect with this fine and LIVING portrait! But I lean toward squaring it... from left to right. But then I tend to square most things. Regards. CH Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted June 6, 2008 Perfect, an "artless" photo in the best sense. There she is, smack-dab in the middle of the frame, her world floating around her and lighting up the room with with a smile every waitress should study. Link to comment
