wingell 0 Posted May 15, 2008 Forty years ago, many of my elderly neighbors on the riverfront in Philadelphia were immigrants who had disembarked at the Immigration Station at Washington Avenue, walked a couple of blocks into the nearby neighborhood, settled and lived there for the next 50 or 60 years, working as longshoremen or at the Navy Yard.
