dougityb 0 Posted May 13, 2008 I'm having monitor issues. Can you see the boards on the barn? Or are they too black? I don't want them to stand out *too* much because it is the shadow side of the barn, after all, but I don't want them to be pitch black, either. On my monitor, they are visible...not stand out visible, but visible and you can count the slats. Link to comment
lonebearimages 0 Posted May 14, 2008 Not stand-out visible, but visible. An interesting photograph. It is probably just me, but I'd like more of the tree and house on the right side included; or all excluded. The eye goes there looking for more. Cheers! Chris Link to comment
dougityb 0 Posted May 14, 2008 Chris, right you are. As you can see from the post card, there was a tree and more of the house to begin with, but they both got trimmed as a result of the border, which was a 30 px white stroke inside the frame. Do you think the full version shows enough? Doug Link to comment
mg 0 Posted May 15, 2008 I see nothing but pitch black, here. Hmmmm... Maybe I'm having monitor issues nowadays... so it's tough to tell you much more: just the shape of the barn in front of a not particularly attractive sky doesn't do much for me...:-( Link to comment
dougityb 0 Posted May 16, 2008 Another one that you need to see bigger and everything will be ok! I'm kidding, of course. Yes, you're right. It is a very mundane scene, and I surely can't excuse it, or explain it away. In the print, there's enough detail in the barn to see the wood, and also, in the print, you can get closer to it, and angle it in better light, and so on. On your screen, you're stuck with it. I'm sure what you're experiencing is either because our monitors are not synchronized, or some other related issue. 5x5 px samples of portions of the barn measures rgb 2,4,8, which isn't too bright, granted. But you can see the various slats, so it's enough to see that it's not a black cut out into the next universe. When I scrinted the barn brighter, it began to look fake because of the light coming from the other side, so I kept it as dark as I could, but still with detail. The version above shows some improvement, but any more fooling around with the blacks and they go blue and look terrible. I had trouble with the sunset light, you're right there, too. It's kind of drab. But I like the clouds! And I like the barn, too. I like the shape of it, and that it's black. Most barns around here are either gray, or red. And, I like that it kept me out of work for a half hour. I'd rather be out photographing a dull barn than working any day. Link to comment
