I'll bite. It could be the tree called the "Paulina" or the "Coffinwood Tree" which is not an indigenous species and is profuse along Route 64 in the month of May as one crosses the Blue Ridge. Or it could be a simple but beautiful Dogwood.

I live in your area of the state.

Thanks Susan,

I should state right here that this is not a quiz, per se. I don't know what kind of tree it is so I'll not know if you're correct until I verify your answer....somehow.

Ok, thanks. I'm pretty sure it's not a dogwood, and I don't think it's a paulina, but maybe it's a coffinwood? Or, are they two names for the same tree?

Nice to meet you, neighbor.

The Paulina and the Coffinwood are the same tree. I do not know the Latin but you have seen them on the road. They look like the Redbuds but bloom later. I am not sure what the tree is in your shot. I am no expect. I just saw them blooming and asked a hortoculturist at Tippton Farms.

Susan, on the other side of the mountain

Well, if this unknown species is a dog, then it's not a tree. But to me it looks like a tree...:-)) Ok, more seriously now... I like the composition on this one, and the fact that the two trees at the back are "naturally" darker than the front one. And I find the symetrical composition odd but nice in this case. I suppose I'd make one suggestion: how about darkening the grass overall - just A LITTLE BIT. It should remain natural and believable, but I feel the grass is taking a little too much attention as it is. Worth a try...? Cheers.

Wow, Marc, I've already burned it quite a bit. All of these, because of the on camera flash, need that. I see what you're saying, though.

Susan, I revisited the location. I think it's not a Paulina. I have at least two of those in my yard, and it's quite a different plant, although the blossoms are roughly the same color. I'm starting to think it's some variety of peach.

It is not a redbud. The blossoms look too big. I'm of a mind that it is a cherry; I know, call me crazy;...or maybe an almond...Do let me know if you come to a conclusion. Cheers! Chris BTW, a hell of a shot! :>)

Hi Chris, thanks. No, it's not a redbud, you're right. I revisited the property this afternoon, and saw short, narrow leaves. Redbuds have big heart shaped leaves. Also, small, round fruits were growing, very much like peaches. The investigation continues....

I don't know what kind of tree this is , but the feeling of wake up season of spring is very present. I like the two BG trees still in the shade of winter, bare, vs. the flowers start "decorating" the little one....

I'm going to make the call that this is a peach tree. I took a closer look this morning, and it can't be anything a peach tree. I'll be watching it over the next few weeks, though, just to be sure. Everyone above, send your address to me over the photonet email service, and I'll send you a postcard of it. Everyone wins! Thanks for helping.
