Is this better than the first one?

In this photography, as with most photographs with animals or people you try and follow the birds eyes, in this case to the left, with your eyes, all be it subconsciously. In this case one is unable due to the fact that left of the bird is the edge of the photograph. I know its not always possible but generally it looks better for the subject to be "looking into the photo" so the eye can follow the subjects gaze.
