dougityb 0 Posted May 9, 2008 What interpretation would you apply to this picture? Thanks for your response. Link to comment

mg 0 Posted May 10, 2008 "larger is better, because I said so." Hahahahahaha ! Must be Burgessian humor again...:-))) I'm not sure how to understand your question, regarding the "interpretation". Do you mean: which meaning do I see in this picture ? Or do you mean: what would one suggest to do with this picture (drops, adjustments, etc) in order to obtain the best possible print of it ? I see a path, quite a lonely and sad path, and something alive and beautiful along the way. I like the path's curve, and I like what's by the sides of the path at top right. I feel there's probably too much of the bright path at the bottom, somehow competing with the blossoms. Perhaps a slightly lower camera, a step to your left and turning the camera just a bit to the right would yield a better composition...? Not sure. It's tough from my chair... Overall I find the picture interesting, still with a little something missing in terms of composition. Link to comment
dougityb 0 Posted May 10, 2008 Thanks Amal. Very good to see you here. Marc, you got it. that's exactly the meaning. One's journey through life needs to include the ocassional appreciation of simple, yet beautiful things. I carry my camera with me most everywhere I go, but seldom my tripod, so I'm discouraged about this picture because the depth of field is a little too shallow. I would like to have pulled the whole branch into focus with one stop less aperture, but missed it as the light was fading quickly and I was at the lowest shutter speed my jittery hands could manage. A spring rain knocked all the blossoms off the next day, so this was my only chance. I think it's ok, but would like a few more milimeteres of focus on the branch. whatever. With regard to camera position, this seemed the best compromise considering the building at the top, which spoke too much of a specific location, and the walkway at the bottom, which opened up into a wide gulf of tan. Overall, I'm satisfied with it very much, and find it a very soothing and reflective image. Thanks Marc. Link to comment

Yep. I didn't mention about it here, because I already mentionned it on your other photo of a similar branch, but I've got to agree with you on that. As for the meaning, yes: it's quite clear & it gets accross well - I think... Regards. Link to comment
peter_daalder 0 Posted May 11, 2008 This is an image I can really relate to. Especially, since I had to struggle with the depth of field issue myself. Where's that tripod, when you really need it? Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 64 Posted May 20, 2009 Doug, it evokes the mood I get from listening to an old song I recently discovered done by the Four Aces ages ago, "Garden in the Rain": 'Twas just a garden in the rainbeside a little leafy lane,a touch of color 'neath skies of gray. The raindrops kissed the flower beds, the blossoms raised their thirsty heads.A perfumed 'thank you' they seemed to say. Surely here was charm beyond compare to view.Maybe it was just that I was there with you. 'Twas just a garden in the rain, but then the sun came out againand sent us happily on our way. Okay, so it is not raining here. The point is that the mood is the same that I feel when I hear the song.--Lannie Link to comment
dougityb 0 Posted May 20, 2009 Thanks Linda. Nice poem, Lannie. And it looks even better without the logo, too. Link to comment
