whydangle 0 Posted May 9, 2008 I was just trying out my new fisheye lens on the St. Louis Gateway Arch. I think it looks OK considering there is no distortion of the horizons and also a lack of vignetting. Its the Flounder negative105mm from Pentax. As always, thanks for your impressions!! The Larger view is recommended. Link to comment
raybrizzi 0 Posted May 9, 2008 I take it this is a panorama shot since a 17mm is effectively a 25 and could never do a full 180? Or just two images sewn together? Anyway it's an interesting image, don't think I've seen one like it before. Link to comment
lonebearimages 0 Posted May 9, 2008 Whoa, Nellie! This is different; and not seen very often, if ever. Seriously cool shot, Mark; and very abstract too. Cheers! Chris Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted May 9, 2008 Thanks Ray, Bob, Aaron and Chris for your thoughts. This is actually 5 horizontal exposures laid on their side and stitched. I don't have a plug-in for stitching and Photomerge did a lousy job, so I sewed the whole thing together in CS2 by hand. I took some liberties with the Clone Stamp and a little Copy and Paste because between the exposures the clouds were moving and did not line up. This is my first panorama stitch so I am pleased with the results. While the job took a couple of hours in Photoshop, the hard part was taking the staight up shot, since I am over six feet tall and my travel tripod is rather short and not worthy. Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted May 9, 2008 I'm just dizzy! Some serious vertigo here, but a great shot(s)... What's so fabulous about this image and your others, is that they are so unique from a site that's been snapped a zillion times! Fabulous eye you have there... Mike Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted May 9, 2008 Thanks Mike. The night before I went down to photograph the arch, I laid in bed conjuring up a unique possibility. I have never executed a pano stitch, but there is a first time for everything. I was doubtful because my equipment is far from adequate for this type of image. Attached is the top portion of the arch. The dark rectangles are actually the windows that you look out when you take the tram to the top. The arch is 630 feet above the Mississippi River. They don't make fishing line long enough for that kind of "extreme" fishing! Link to comment
dacamera 0 Posted May 14, 2008 It's a very intriguing image, I have spent a good few minutes trying to get my head round it! It's certainly a very different take on an oft photographed icon. Simon Link to comment
