Whether you framed this in the camera or later, it's a terrific composition. I especially like the near monotone, light blue tint to the sky and water, and I love the contrast of the orange sign. I am curious why/how there's the darker line at the horizon... the far shore? The shot is very fine as it is, and I'd be proud to have taken it. I also wonder how it would be if there were no clear line at the horizon. But, as I've continued to look, I'm leaning toward the line being necessary for the shot to work. As it stands, it's one of those images I want to keep staring at... it's so very peaceful.

A beautiful shot with fine color, detail, and composition. I really like this one! Regards...

You have shown just the right amount of the scene to make it an attractive piece of art. Convention says that the horizon line should not be in the center of the image, but doing otherwise would distract from the picture. Well done.

Thanks everyone for the comments. David this was actually composed in camera and I actually waited a moment or two for the boat to arrive in the presented position. It was right after sundown, not prior to sunrise as my title suggests, but these guys go out a lot in the evening and fish all night, so technically it was the beginning of their day. The line on the horizon?-- can't explain, I don't recall a distant shore in this particular area, so maybe some kind of light refraction from the water?? I am sure there are some scientific minds that can explain it. Until you pointed it out, I never really noticed it. Shawn, I chose to keep the horizon line in the center (give or take a bit), because I felt it would cramp the vertical extension of the sign post and boat as well as the reflections in the water, so a little bit of space at the top gives it a little "breathing" room. Thanks again to everyone for the comments. Regards....LJ
