cphilpott 0 Posted May 3, 2008 Excellent use of a mono tone. Removing the color removes the distraction and allows focus on form and line and this composition works very well. I find myself wishing I knew more about this old battered piece of machinery. Link to comment
myattphotoandfotoart39 1 Posted May 3, 2008 I agree with the monotone comment. This the scecond time over here I have heard "remove color" and I ask about it before. Do you shoot color or bw? I usually have better shots taken near evening. The harsh blues fade out and the soft yellow and red come in. Makes a difference on bw too. You can see with the eye when this happens. The wooden door that I like so well would not be the same in sun light. I cannot imagine what are these machines Link to comment

jbidarra 0 Posted May 4, 2008 Thank you all for your kind words. Meir,I now shoot in digital so I work in RAW wich is in color RGB, an then I convert it to BW or in the Raw converter or in Photoshop CS2. I normally also prefer to photograph between 5:00 PM and the sunset. the light is better and smoother. Link to comment

myattphotoandfotoart39 1 Posted May 4, 2008 i learned something. i hace ask elsewhere why color. does raw only work in color? i cannot open raw for somwe reason/ someone once told me thadvantage of raw over tiff but i forget hope you can read this Link to comment
jbidarra 0 Posted May 4, 2008 Raw works in color. Others can explain it better, and I think if you browse the Forum you will find lots of great explanations. Basically Raw is raw data from the sensor (some call it a digital negative), without processing for instance contrast, white balance, sharpening among others. It also as better dynamic range and you can recover data in the shadows and in the highlights. With the Raw converter you can decide at the processing stage what contrast and what WB, among others again. In some converters (I have Adobe Camera Raw, Bibble and DXO 4.5) you can even correct lens distortions, vigneting and color aberrations. In DXO and Bibble you can convert to BW directly in the program and generate a BW 16-bits Tiff. I use DXO 4.5 and i am happy with the BW conversion, alltough I am also happy with the other type of conversions done latter in Photoshop. Here the advantage is less time spend in the computter. I hope this helps. Best regards. Link to comment
myattphotoandfotoart39 1 Posted May 5, 2008 I cannot properly upload raw. from what you say, maybe there is a way. Link to comment

andrea-de-bonis 6 Posted May 7, 2008 the choose of the subject, the light, tones, i like a lot. About the subject, this strange machine, you found something that can remember many others things and situation, so this give inetrest to your shoot. at my taste I had preferred a bigger apertur, becouse it seems to me that the background disturb a little.
