We spent about four hours on a day trip to New Orleans. This is

dedicated to Kirk Dietrich who went through Katrina. We here in

Pensacola totally understand. I expected YUCH and found Beautiful in

the French Quarter. :) Oh, and it was JUST as I remembered it. Of

course there were still places that just broke my heart but PLEASE if

you can get to New Orleans you MUST visit!

I think this is a wonderful picture and such a lovely picture for us to welcome back the Old New Orleans.

Thank you Micki, the French Quarter is indeed beautiful, you have taken a shot that could be on a post card! This area sustained some wind damage and some rain damage and damage from freezers' contents on second floors melting down into walls; many restaurants had to tear out walls to clean food juices and sanitize their establishments.

The French Quarter is the high ground of the city and as such did not get the heavy flooding of the surrounding areas and being the main source of tax income, it was restored the quickest. Glad you got to visit.

Pensacola is a beautiful place, it saddens me every time a hurricane heads that way; seems like every year that town gets hit.

We did go out through some of the places VERY damaged by the hurricane and even through a neighborhood that we probably should not have driven but I think that the kids should see things like that.

Places that STILL have not bounced back after a detestation like that even here in the US.

We still have places like that here in Pensacola too but not MALLS and whole towns (or areas just out side of a big city).

We don't have people living in half torn down buildings here like they do there. It is good for them to see that as well as the RICH and gloriius places like the French Quarter where they of course ate a meal for $15 each and it was EXCELLENT.

My mom (Ciana above your comment HI MOM) was there just what a week before the hurricane and I am so glad she wasn't there during the Hurricane.

Next time I come that way I'll try to give you a shout. :)

Let's not forget our neighbors in coastal Mississippi who were also devastated, and sadly much of the media forgets. Hopefully a calm season for all of us on the gulf coast. I am currently working on a presentation on the remaining scars of Katrina and have focused much of the efforts starting in south Mobile County and working west towards New Orleans. It may take me a little longer to complete due to a crazy work schedule right now, but maybe another month to 6 weeks to completion. Peace to all....LJ

Lesa, I feel your pain, I was not in New Orleans proper where the attention was focused. I was in St. Bernard Parish where the Canadian Mounties arrived to assist before our own government. Residents that rode out the storm and had boats were doing the rescueing and hardly a word was mentioned on the news casts we were watching. I think Mississippi got more coverage than St. Bernard and we know how little Mississippi got. Myold St Bernard parish only had 5, a total of 5 residences that were not flooded!

Mississippi's coast was flattened. You know the media, though, they will go where the controversy is...

Good luck on you coverage.

It is like Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisianna (and even a bit of Texas) got RAKED under by Hurricanes in all under what THREE YEARS!

Every time one of them came through it hurt the ecosystem even more which will NEVER be the same again either.

I can't wait to see what you have in the works Lesa. Ping me when you get it done.

AND HEY, when are we getting together. I have all summer. :) ~ I'll be bored AFTER this wedding, and then the ones in June. EEEK!

Oh, if I make it that far.

We definately will have to get together this summer. I really want to see your beach wedding pix, my cousin asked me to photograph her beach wedding in September. Once things calm down a bit a work, I'm gonna give you a holler and we'll get together. LJ
