Israel, my country ,is celebrating its 60 years of existence .It is 60 years of rising from the ashes of the holocaust, which is stamped as an incandescent iron in the national memory and history of the WWII suffering.

It is accompanied with the national days of remembrance, of the holocaust victims ,and all the wars victims of these 60 years. Loss of young life the country is still paying with, for preventing another holocaust.

It is my photographic collage with a poem written by an Israeli poet, Ora Asael. . The poem speaks of the celebration, Jerusalem as a symbol.

A celebtration of fireworks, but with the sad crying violins.

It will be exhibited starting next week ( with another two of mine, a group show), in the Bible House gallery in Tel Aviv.

Thanks

David, this painting of Ben ,from the " Song of Songs" reminded me your photo of PEACE . This painting is exhibited with a lot of his works, in the Bible house. He was born in poland( 1905), learned painting in Paris (a friend of Shagal). When the holocaust started, his name as a painter was known in Paris, he was hiding with his wife in a secluded cellar for 26 months, in fear, as the gestapo was looking for him. In this place his consolation was the bible and he WROTE his ideas for the paintings of the "song of songs" and other subjects scene from the bible( "Tehilim" 120 paintings) ). Ater the holocaust, he saw a sacred mission to paint them. He created 110 big paintings( song of songs" ) that were exhibited in Paris and many other places. Part of his collection is a permanent exhibition in the Bible house.

Congratulations to your country for both its survival and success over the last sixty years. Funny to imagine that it did not even exist when I was born. Wonderful image you've created, a little elegiac in nature, but definitely touching. (Of course, I cannot read the poem). As always, Peace.

Pnina, a violin carries the soul of a person, what lies inside our words. I love your photograph very much. You are a wonderful and talented ambassador for Israel.

I'd like to leave a poem here, which I find apropos to the situation. I wish Israel a Happy Birthday, and a year and future of peace and harmony, both inside the country and for each living creature (every person, every animal) in the entire region. The poem is written by Israeli poet Yehudah Amichai z"l: (Note: the song "Chad Gadya" is sung at the Passover seder and refers to the sad fact that each creature in the world has a predator that consumes/destroys it, in a cycle of killing. It is a song yearning for peace. "Chad Gadya" shares a similarity (though this song does not reject religion) with John Lennon's song "Imagine."

An Arab Shepherd Is Searching For His Goat On Mount Zion

by Yehuda Amichai

An Arab shepherd is searching for his goat on Mount Zion

And on the opposite hill I am searching for my little boy.

An Arab shepherd and a Jewish father

Both in their temporary failure.

Our two voices meet above

The Sultan's Pool in the valley between us.

Neither of us wants the boy or the goat

To get caught in the wheels

Of the "Chad Gadya" machine.

Afterward we found them among the bushes,

And our voices came back inside us

Laughing and crying.

Searching for a goat or for a child has always been

The beginning of a new religion in these mountains.

Thanks, it is a very very nice congratulations. I'm very thankful for your addition. Yehuda Amichai, is one of the best Israeli poets, known and studied in schools here.

I have his poetry in Hebrew , and I'm familiar with that poem , which talks about his, and ours yearning for peace , and the metaphoric analogy of the shepherd and the father is so very beautiful!

Thanks for adding it here, Donna, I feel you as a part of our anniversary and our yearning , and hope ! for peace.

You honor and touch me so by writing to me here and even mentioning my photo in the same sentence with Ben. His story moves me deeply, and gives all the more meaning to the great beauty and artistry in his painting.

Israel's existence is so important, and such a bright light for strength, courage, persistence, and the hope for Peace in the world. As Donna wrote, you are a wonderful and talented ambassador for Israel and you bring a great force of life to the cause of Peace. It is my great fortune to have you as my friend.

Thanks for your congratulations, we really need it, and yours and other support is very important.

Ben has a great series of photos in the Bible house( btw the first floor there is the holl Ben Gurion announced the founding of Israel, the house and inside contents are simply a beauty).

The feeling of friendship is reciprocal David. Thanks for writing it.

Congratulations on a beautiful shot that joins laughter and tears. The addition of a violinist is perfect, as the violin can be lively and strong at one point and melancholic and sad the next. Such are the emotions that stir in me when I think of Israel. I like how the poem appears to be coming down like words from heaven. Peace, always.

I sat here and read it whikle visualizing the violin playing in the background. The wonderful thing is I just saw Davids wonderful picture of the cloud that was FRAMED. It was as if it prepared me to see this in a different way. A more peaceful way.

Very wonderful. Something great to go rest my eyes and sleep on.

:) ~

Hugs to all!

It has been busy and I wanted to catch up on all of you. ~ micki

Wonderfully symbolic composition, Pnina. An element which I particularly like is the violinist - shows how important music is in the life of the country. I'm sure I would get much more out of it if I could read Hebrew. My best wishes to you, and to Israel.

JERUSALEM DISGUISED

The flowers of fireworks

are tearing the flickering sky,

Jerusalem wall

white dazzling glow,

daylight at night and rainbow without a cloud.

we shall have to pay the bill.

Enough I say enough enough enough

fireworks reminding war machins,

voices in flams

wrapping disguised Jerusalem.

Violin to David. violin to David.

the violins are crying with me.

I hope that the messsage of peace, just as the music that comes from the violin being played, is heard by everyone. An exquisite composition that is strong and symbolic. Best to you and your country my friend.
