mark_q 0 Posted April 29, 2008 Oh dear, this photo brings nice memories to my mind, back to early 80s. It was fun to put the head under the black sheet and see the subject upside down. IMHO more advanced digicams could have a feature to mirror the preview image upside for another evalueting check before exposure. I just wonder whenever you stayed there a longer time to figure out his work methods or maybe even had a chat with that photographer? Somehow I have this gut feeling all those black hats on models were on loan (you are in France, you know now for sure ;-)). Then that white box on top of camera: could it be a box of Ilford sheet film - or something else? Pnina, do you have any history to tell us here, thanks? Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted April 29, 2008 A nice slice of life you have captured. For me the guy with the slr makes the shot. The architecture, the view camera and the props look to be out of one time and the scaffolding, the pedestrians and the slr look to be out of another. Markku I am certain that is an Ilford box. pnital 36 Posted April 29, 2008 Thanks for your nice evaluations, and questions,I'm glad it brought nice memories to you Markku, I never used that kind of camera,. it was taken in Spain. As I was with a group of friends( two photographers from Madrid that knew this corner and we were on our way to another place, my daughter and one wife....)I could not talk with him, and he was busy all the time, so I did have the time to shoots the scene twice. The scene was funny because of the slr Gord, it was like past and present in photography, connected.... it is what made the scene for me too , and the street,( past and present.)And the trio models that looked from another part of the glob...( with the similar hats ...) Markku, if Gord said it was Ilford film, he probably knows....;-)) The whole scene was a bit surealistic... Thanks both of you ! Link to comment
LindaM 2 Posted April 29, 2008 ditto to Cherlyn's comment. i am looking forward to the next in this series! Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted April 29, 2008 a fun image. I agree with Gordon that the contradiction of the (d)slr is striking. You did good to take this. From a technical point of view I have a feeling that this photo comes straight from your camera. It's slanted while that pavement here looks blown out while all the detail is all there. You should put some more work in this one. And before I forget. That's definitely Ilford. Link to comment
bradkim 8 Posted April 29, 2008 Nice capture of the pedestrian-only street scene.... So you are one of the three, Pnina! Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted April 30, 2008 Ton, thanks... I will look into it again, thanks for your points, and your cut from the photo ;-))..... it is Ilford, you know it too. Brad and here I'm the forth....LOL Link to comment
amalsircar 2 Posted April 30, 2008 Pnina, you have captured several generations, past & present, modern & the archaic ,in one shot.Very good street-shot. Link to comment
laurent_jaussi 0 Posted April 30, 2008 I always liked photos of photographers in action...a kind of loop concept that fascinates me...the balanced compo, the (modern) 2nd photog, the family portrait....all in all and excellent image with nice stories within (modern vs old, family memories, travel, time....)... jeffl7 0 Posted May 2, 2008 Everyone wants a piece of the action. And the funny thing is there is no action. My favorite part of the photo is the little shrugging kid. It is absolutely impossible to get a child that age to stand still for a photo. I can imagine the effort it takes for him and for his parents to keep that little hand down and those little orange shoes from kicking. This is another "slice of life" photo that pairs nicely with your earlier wedding photo. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted May 3, 2008 Thanks all of you, your feedback is very much appreciated.. Jeff, I also looked at the child's unpleasant feeling pose ,in the whole scene.... with the hat and orange shoes.... what people are ready to do for photo their travel memories.... Link to comment
davidorea 0 Posted May 4, 2008 Another excellent capture, Pnina. Very nice scene with a perfect caption. Good shot! Regards! Link to comment
