mg 0 Posted April 28, 2008 Very beautiful angle, and great light on the land. Is this the original sky ? Besides this, I'd probably dream of just a bit less saturation for my personal taste, but otherwise close to perfect. Well done. Link to comment
dacamera 0 Posted April 28, 2008 Hi Mark, Yes this is the original sky, the whole scene is just as I remember it (only just over a week ago!). The sort of evening you pray for in the Highlands! Simon Link to comment
loic brohard 0 Posted April 28, 2008 Hi Simon, wonderful image, like always. What a wonderful place and luck you got with the weather. Congrats, Loic Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted April 29, 2008 Breathtaking image Simon!! Great timing and awesome environment for a healthy landscape. The sky is pure drama and the quality of light is amazing. Great post processing as well!! It is possible to pull a little more out by duplicating the layer and change blend mode to luminosity. Then utilize the shadow/highlight adjustment in the image/adjustment dropdown. For shadows, set the tonal width to about 48 and the radius to about 190, then lower the amount to about 6 or 8 (that is if your amount is set by default at 50, which is too high). Click on the preview checkbox to compare the adjustment. You can also hold the highlights by increasing the highlight amount, just make sure to increase the tonal width and the radius as well, perhaps to 30 and 50! Because you are working on a separate layer, you can mask out areas you may want to avoid or vice versa. It will pull out some contrast, so it may not be what you want, but its worth playing around with! Cheers!! Link to comment

stephen-whitehead 0 Posted May 5, 2008 I guess the title Loner alludes to the tree in this photograph, but I'm not sure the tree plays an impotant role in this composition, in fact I wonder if it might have been be stronger without. I do however get a sense of solitude from viewing this image and I guess you felt this also at this location. A beautiful image, a classic and faithful rendition of a Scottish landscape. chris_panagiotidis 0 Posted May 5, 2008 No wonder why your photograph Simon has attracted the accolades like butter the flies! The dramatic sky,the beauty of this Highlands slice and the lone tree as well as the blurred water movement ,together with the impeccable composition, do make a winner! Compliments and congratulations, Chris Link to comment
atlatling 4 Posted May 5, 2008 I've never looked at your work before, and now I wish that I had. I certainely would have learned a few things. I think your compositional use of the "rule" of thirds is in play here with the tree being the subject. I wish that the tree had more strength, but sometimes what you have is all you get. In looking at your other images, I see wonderful use of low sun angle and color saturation. Really great!... Loved that lost lamb shot. Great seeing. Even I would not think of cropping this image. dacamera 0 Posted May 5, 2008 Hi Stephen, you are correct in your reading of the title, it alludes both to the tree and the incredible solitude of the location. I did however sense a person standing behind me while I was bent over the camera, this feeling persisted for a couple of hours. In the six hours I was away from the car I didn't see anyone, not even in the far distance. Simon Link to comment
