Lighting, pose, composition, background: any comments? I'm looking to improve and

value your pointers.

I'll speak to the composition, since I feel that would be the first issue to be addressed. You might consider a much tighter crop. Rather then trying to explain my suggestions, I have taken the liberty of cropping a copy of your shot that shows how I think this can be improved. I believe it provides a stronger visual statement.
