And now for something completely different. I have never done any studio photography. But I have gotten involved with a photography group in the Buffalo area that does some studio shooting with models. Talk about an exponential learning curve! I have photos of several models that I will upload eventually.

I will greatly appreciate any critiques, especially with any technical pointers. I found that I had a good time shooting the models and want to do so again eventually. Feel free to be REALLY constructive!!

Wow, Lou Ann - totally different for you! I'm not very experienced with people studio lighting, either, so take anything I say with a grain of salt. I'd like just a little more light on the shadow side of her face. If she had turned just a bit more, it probably would have been enough. Other than that, I do like the pose and there is fairly good detail in the blacks. Fun stuff!

This is I think the best of the 3 uploaded, Lou Ann, as an experiment of a new style you did well here I think with the light and shadows.I'm as well not familiar with this kind of photography.

Best of the 3 no doubt about it. The focus here is exactly right. The lighting is intriguing. And with the lower ISO, there's no noise. Her hair, earrings and jewel on the nose (I don't even know what they call those things) all say "Attitude" with the capital A. Excellent start on what appears to be a great new path for you.

Good luck!

Cheers ~

Thanks everyone. (By the way, Pnina and Alberta - there are several more along these lines in this folder ... take a look if you have time. I won't be uploading anything else for over a week....) :-D

I agree this is the best of the three and I can only hope to do half as well on my first attempts at this. I like the attitude you have captured and feel that a bit more light on her face would help; too much more light would ruin the attitude, however. Nicely done.

I see 13 model shots. I like this the best......great pose, lighting, and you really picked up her attitude! Good model! This must have been fun, and bravo to you for trying something new. My husband and I just joined a photo club, and they'll be bringing models in for us sometime soon......hope I have as good of results on my first time. Keep up the great work!

It has been a while since I looked through your entire portfolio, Lou Ann, and what a pleasant surprise it is to see this series. I like this best of the bunch, especially the messy hair and pose.

Not that I'm an experienced studio photographer, and my initial impression is that the lighting might be a bit too bright for her dark jacket. Another thought was that shooting from the shadow side might have been interesting too. I wish the earring wasn't in her collar but that's just a detail.
