At the old place, we had buff-bellies all winter, but I think these ones just came back to Corpus Christi. There were about 2 dozen at the Botanical Gardens on the weekend.

Wow, this is one of the prettiest hummer photos I've seen!

Nice foreground and background that complements the bird perfectly. How long did you wait behind that bush before he landed on the twig? Looks like an Anna's hummer with that short, straight, black beak but I did not know they went up to Texas.

You nailed this one - Beautiful. One small suggestion would be to darken the bottom left yellow portion. My rationale is that it draws my eyes a bit too much instead of the bird. A very minor distraction on a lovely image. Well done.

I was at the Botanical Gardens, with about 2 dozen hummers flying around. This one kept landing on the same branch, so it really didn't take too long to get a shot. I took several, trying to get the red throat, but most of the time, he wasn't at the right angle to get it in full glory. Thanks for the suggestion, Tony. I'll try it on the print copy.

Thanks! There were lots of hummers around, so it didn't take much to notice where they were perching and wait for the moment.

love the colors here, they blend well, and the focus on the colors of the feathers is superb. very nice Kim.

This is so pretty. I love how the same colours are repeated in the bird and in the background. The lighting works well here, nice catch light in the eye, sheen on the beak and enhancing the soft shimmer on it''s back. Beautiful quality image Kim. Congrats on this one!

Nicely done Kim, I like the non-distracting background, the catch light in the eye and the way the light brings out the green in the body feathers and the patch of red. Although I prefer the lighting, color and detail in this image, I preferred the composition of Hummingbird #4; finding the big upright leaf at the rear of this one a slight distraction. very minor detail though. This lens seems to be working well for you.

regards,

Jim
