xray4u 0 Posted April 27, 2008 Nice capture Liz. I as well like the colors. Has a real earth tone appeal. Also the reflections enhanced this nicely. I wonder what this would have looked like with a longer exposure to give the water that "wisp" effect? Beautiful work! Link to comment
lizweisiger 0 Posted April 27, 2008 Kevin, I love your suggestion about shutter speed. I think I'll go try it out. Link to comment
xray4u 0 Posted April 27, 2008 Liz .. Some people like the softness created by longer exposures on water and some don't. Sort of personal taste I suppose .. This image is just so beautiful and those wispy effects seem to look great on running water (particularly falls) .. I thought it might be interesting. By the way .. "thank you" for your kind words on the barn image. Hope and trust all finds you well. Link to comment

gordonjb 10,860 Posted May 1, 2008 Absolutely stunning image! Despite my penchant for slow shutters, I think you nailed it here with your choice of shutter speed. The water below the fall is full of life and motion which is a perfect foil to the still and serene look of the water above. In this instance, I feel that adding the standard slow shutter, soft water effect, would diminish the beautiful contrast and tension between the two types of water surface. The image needs the rushing water to compliment the calm. I absolutely adore the line in the foreground were the water falls into the turbulence. That bottom left hand corner is an amazing composition within a composition. Link to comment
lonebearimages 0 Posted May 1, 2008 Without a set of ND grads, a slow shutter speed would have rendered the tailwater and the trees probably a stop or two over-exposed; so, I think you absolutely controlled the dynamic range here perfectly. Well seen, and captured. Cheers! Chris Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted May 1, 2008 Well, those two boys here above are right on the mark concerning your shutter speed. Apart from that those complementary colours really do the job. It's a wonderful image and a pleasure to look at. It almost looks like a painting and a wonderful one at that. Link to comment
