this one seems like more of a release. more hopeful. for me it seems to be the third in the series.(though, perhaps that is because i viewed it last.) amazing work, john.

Mark, Mary, Pete, and Tatjana... I thank you all for taking the time to visit and to comment. I don't recall an occassion in which I've commented on any of my own photographs in a way that would remotely sound as though I showing a lack of humility...regardless of how pleased I might have been with a particular shot. I don't intend to start doing so now. But I have to say after that little caveat ... is that I have never been more pleased with a series of photographs that I've produced. It took no time whatsoever to decide that I wouldn't allow any of these shots to be rated...because the first low ratings that I would surely see...would have thrown me into a Southern bitch-fit. (if anyone doesn't understand that term...let me know and I'll explain further ;) I wouldn't have been angered because of my personal involvement in producing these pictures, because I honestly feel that I was only the human who was fortunate enough to have had a camera in his hand when the moment arrived. I truly feel no more deserving of credit for these photographs... than Moses was deserving of receiving the tablets on Mt.Sinai. I was merely the recepient of something greater than my own skills or creativity. I'm also not prone to philosophical ramblings...and only hope that I don't sound as though I've taken leave of my senses. But if it hasn't happened to you yet (and surely it will), when you produce work that transcends "you"... perhaps you'll remember what I've had to say, and you will thoroughly understand. Bottom line: I don't take credit for this photograph...or any in this series...I'm simply thankful that they were entrusted to me!

Very beautiful and amazing photo. The light on the water, the two figures and the tones are really striking.

The series is fascinating, John...your comments make it very touchy. I particularly like this one as it reminds me of this:

"Well, son, I'll tell you:

Life for me ain't been no crystal stair.

It's had tacks in it,

...

So boy, don't you turn back ..."

---Mother and son, Langston Hughes
