jeffl7 0 Posted April 20, 2008 The collaboration between cat, Clara, and you is a resounding success. Link to comment
shots worth sharing 1 Posted April 20, 2008 Thanks, Jeff! The (battered) screen gives it a certain 'je ne sais quoi', don't you think? Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted April 20, 2008 Not only a wonderful collaboration, I have to say I'm impressed with your French as well. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted April 20, 2008 You're right. Mysterious. Can't put my finger on it... Well, even if I could, I'd just get my computer screen dirty. Link to comment
shots worth sharing 1 Posted April 20, 2008 Thanks, Jack. That's about all I remember from junior high school (except for Sue Levin--but that's another story.) Link to comment
dseltzer 0 Posted April 20, 2008 This really has a dream-like quality, and I love the layering, with each element clearly defined, yet blending well into the whole. The cat looks like s/he is about to say something... probably like, "I'm ready for my screening." Sad attempt at humor aside, I like this shot a lot. Link to comment
shots worth sharing 1 Posted April 21, 2008 Thanks, David! I was just delighted to see Clara pick up her camera and go out shooting. I seem to have infected her big brother with the photography bug and I'm delighted by the prospect of having her join us in the avocation. I don't think this turned out as she envisioned but she likes it. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted April 21, 2008 This is a cool effect. The collision of several worlds and several viewpoints. I like how the story unfolds a bit at a time, or maybe I am just a bit slow this morning. I see that kitty likes to sharpen her claws on window screens :) Link to comment
shots worth sharing 1 Posted April 21, 2008 Thanks, Gordon! You're *almost* right. Charlie's mischievous but, in this case, innocent: the scratches are the work of his look-alike predecessor, Ashkenazi (aka, "Ashcan".) Link to comment
doug_gentry 0 Posted April 22, 2008 Dave, really nice photo! The reflection and the textures make for a great viewing! Excellent vision! Regards, Doug! Link to comment
shots worth sharing 1 Posted April 22, 2008 Thanks, Nima! I wish I could claim credit for it. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted April 22, 2008 Excellent. I like the layering effect of the various textures and reflections. There is a story here, if only in the cat's gaze out the window as cats are so prone to do. It's one of those inside-out numbers. At first I thought the curtains were providing a strange linen-like texture only to then realize we had both curtains and screen, a great and photogenic combination. To be honest, I would prefer it without your reflection. Photographers' reflections too easily fall into that cliche category and I think there's enough at play here that the image would have easily stood on its own without that addition. Link to comment
shots worth sharing 1 Posted April 22, 2008 Thanks for the comment Fred. Of course, the photographer is Clara, not me. I know what you mean about it's being a cliche, but it was part of the charm of the shot for me as her dad. I'd actually been meaning (trying, in fact) to include her in a through-the-window shot with the curtains as texture but she beat me to it with this 'double reverse' with the screen giving an effect neither of us anticipated. katzpjs 50 Posted April 23, 2008 Cute and nice! Great work on everyone's part. This would translate into a fine jigsaw puzzle, but probably only I would be working it... I like the inclusion of the photographers reflection, but I'd like it with even more color saturation and a bit more contrast. Link to comment
shots worth sharing 1 Posted April 23, 2008 Like this? I dunno--I think this loses some of the texture. Maybe somewhere in between? Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted April 23, 2008 To me, the muted tones tell so much of the story . . . hazy, a bit distant, as seen rather realistically through the gauze of the screen and the curtain. The mutedness gives it a classic feel, there already especially in the pose of the cat and the inclusion of the curtains. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted April 23, 2008 Dave, I like the original as is, has some nice texture and I like the gray screen with the hints of blue from Clara's cloth..Nice effect, with the cat's pose. looks like 3 layers with the trees in the BG. Link to comment
shots worth sharing 1 Posted April 24, 2008 Thanks anyway, Shawn--it was an instructive experiment. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted April 24, 2008 Sometimes you just don't know until you try. That is one of my favourite aspects of PN. - those gentle nudges to try a different take on a photo that may not have come to mind otherwise. I too like the pastel effect of the original. Link to comment
