This picture was headed for the trash bin but having looked at it a couple of times it has

kind of grown on me - I appreciate it really isn't a technically good picture but your

comments and critique would be much appreciated - thanks

I like it too. If you said you panned at low speed to show the motion, people would buy it. lol... Mike

You are so wrong thinking it is not a good one! This technique (panning at slow shutter speed) is probably the most difficult task in wildlife photography and the result if properly executed (like in your case) is an artistic, motion blurred image. The only think that could be done better is composition. By placing the swan to the left of your frame you would give it "space" to fly and create a more ballanced shot.It is anyway beautiful! Next time you attempt a similar shot try different shutter speeds. The ideal result is to achieve motion blurred wings and body but relatively sharp head. The perfect shutter speed choise depends on the speed of your subject which of course is not the same in every situation, so "try and error" procedure is what you have to do!Greetings from Greece, Teo

Beautiful image. It looks like a watercolor. I probably like it more than most ,but sometimes you have to break the rules. Good job.
