johncrosley 0 Posted April 13, 2008 This is 'Spike', a Santa Cruz, Ca denizen, one weekend outside a central movie house. Your ratings and critiques are invited and most welcome. If you rate harshly or very critically, please submit a helpful and constructive comment; please share your superior photographic knowledge to help improve my photography. Thanks! Enjoy! jugenjury 0 Posted April 13, 2008 This is definitely different. It looks like a low light setting to me. If so, I'm amazed at the amount of detail you were able to capture. The colorful background gives it an extra flair to go along with the hairdo. I like it. Link to comment
johncrosley 0 Posted April 13, 2008 'Way Sick, Man' This is a nighttime capture just before the midnight movie, but the lighting was fairly strong - it was backlit from the movie marquee, which was bright enough to to allow for a decent shutter speed but at about 1000 ISO. The photo does have detail in his face - not much, but some - and I had to 'step on it' to keep it a silhouette. This is from a NEF (Nikon Electronic Format, Nikon's version of raw), and it had a great deal of detail in the face, and I had to keep the same silhouette that the jpeg version of this showed. The blurriness (or so it appears), on his lip is a lip ring -- other captures show it better, but the mouth was better in this one - one had a great mouth, but it was a little blurry, so I couldn't post it. It was a wonderful shot, if it were steady but the man moved somewhat, so the blur was his movement artifact, and not my V.R. (vibration lens) failure or my own shakiness. I took this and others of him (taken from rather far away with a 70~200 mm Nikkor tele, and showed it to him and his friends, and they pronounced it 'way sick' which are words of high praise in Santa Cruz. I have a somewhat similar photo in this folder, taken of hair like this from the porn convention in Las Vegas, last year, so I hesitated a little to post it; I don't post two of the same or similar photos generally, as there are to many photos to post (I just went through a recent folder of photos recently posted and waiting to be posted, and counted 270 photos, with about one-third or so of them being duplicates (for black and white and color), so the real amount is about 180 new photos from the last six months or more. So, even if I stopped taking photos today, I'd have plenty -- maybe enough for a year, but I photograph quite frequently. Thanks for you comment. John (Crosley) Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted April 15, 2008 Very sic my friend :) I like the fact that his jacket has those striations which look reptilian. In fact I was shooting some male iguanas last week and they sport similar hairdos. You have just the right amount of blur from his motion. Funny thing how, no matter how many images we have waiting in the wing, we still keep picking up the camera and heading out the door. Link to comment
johncrosley 0 Posted April 15, 2008 I have one word: OMIGOD! Such a resemblance. Thanks for posting your photo. I could have titled this photo 'Somewhat Reptilian' but I am not sure my subject would understand if he came across this photo (and he turned out to be a very good guy who was greatly amused by this photo, taken while he was 'mostly' unaware (tele zoom shot). Thanks, Gordon. John (Crosley) Link to comment
