It's not about the arm! Just curious, what benefit would an out of focus arm be to you?

Not attacking, just wondering would it would add for you is all.

Thanks

Todd

Beautiful shot, it conveys exactly what it should. Excellent use of DoF, framing, and perspective. Nevermind the arm being cut off, I hadn't even noticed until I read the comment about it. Look at it this way, at least you didn't cut at a joint.....teehee...

Awesome photograph.

I see an image like this and I'm reminded why I love photography so much.

There is one problem though - the comment about the arm. I find it strange that a photographer would focus on semantics and ignore the myriad of strengths this photo possesses - Strong focal point, great colours of blue against shades of orange and brown all framed in a perfect balance of DoF.

You've caught a moment that comes and goes in the blink of an eye and if you'd fussed over things like trying to include that arm you may've missed this magic shot - after all kids are easily distracted.

So well done Todd.

Regards

Hey Todd! This is a great pic and his blue eyes really pop! About that arm, I share the sentiment that while getting the shot matters much more than crying over the cut-off arm, including it would have made this AA+picture into a AAA picture. IMHO, it isn't what you get out of it, but rather, what the cut-off takes away from the picture. It broke the rhythm of my eye moving across the picture. Away from the boy's blue eyes, I was looking at his ruffled chestnut coloured hair, his pink lips, his cute suit and brass buttons on his jacket, then suddenly, my eye rested on the cut-off arm. If the arm was complete, my eye would not have picked it up, and would have continued moving across the picture and enjoying the other little bits of details in your great picture! But as I said earlier, it's a AA+ picture! Congrats!

The lighting is perfect. I love this shot. I like how the ground below the boy is sprayed with light. I would love to know how you did the lighting. His face is perfectly lit.

Todd, I just discovered your portfolio. I think this is my favorite among your images of children. I like the perspective, the composition, the lighting from behind which gives is considerable depth, the DOF and most important the very natural, genuine gaze of the boy into the camera's lens which reveals his beauty. I think this is children's photography at its best. You are quite an artist. Congratulations. David
