A most unique view! I do not think that I have ever seen hummingbird chicks in their nest before. I have lots of hummingbirds in my backyard but I have never seen their nests. Like Spence, I too would like to know where you were standing to make this great shot. Regards.

This is a very common and abundant hummingbird. They feed, perches and nest at low to mid-levels. I was lucky to find this nest at low level with a good place for me to hide a little bit above the nest without disturbing them and the surroundings and a great background. I took this one with a 600mm lens + 1.4 Extender and natural light. I hope this answers your questions and thank you again for your kind comments!

Priceless. Just one thought, would have liked to see the complete tail of the parent. Sorry, don't mean to nitpick as it's a great photo....

I thought that too!!!, I just did?t want to move the lens because of the hide or scare in anyway the female... when in doubt I just don?t. While nesting I always think about my son, he spent around 15 days in intensive care after he was born, he is ok now, but makes me think that If I scare the female it may abandon the nest and the youngs will be helpless and will starve to death...it?s not worth it!
