If I use my hand to block the top right corner background, the space of the image become deliciously ambiguous- similar to a painting where the canoe seems both two dimensional and three dimensional at the same time... the line where the canoe meets the walkway can be seen as the junction of two planes at angels to each other or as a simple "flat" line on a single surface... does that make sense? This effect is heightened by the painterly rendering of light on the top of the canoe as well. So I feel ambivalent about the inclusion of that top right corner, which grounds the image and solidifies the space. This is not a criticism, but simply a response.
