Although it probably sounds foolhardy to those of you who know what I've been up to lately, I got a new camera!! :-) (I can totally rationalize and justify the purchase, too!) Anyway - I took my new 40D and 28-135mm out for a walk about last week on the National Mall in DC. I wanted to explore some of the settings and performance.

At the same time I've been wanting to do a good series of somewhat abstract architecture shots of the new(ish) Museum of the American Indian. It's a gorgeous building, but difficult to shoot on a sunny day (which happens with great frequency in DC). But last week it was overcast, so I shot a LOT of images...

Of course I am always happy with critiques on individual images, but for this series, I will be uploading a whole bunch of shots and would love for some comparative critiques as well. Comments on color balance, color vs. black & white, composition, perspective, etc. comparing the images will be most valuable to me.

Thank you so much for your support of the first several images in this series. I am enjoying the feedback that you are giving me.

Part of a series of images of this same structure. The other images

are in this same folder. Any comments or ratings are appreciated! :-)

As a vertical image, I would say the same, as I did for your horizontal, posted image, for a comment. Bravo.

The system don't let me give you a 7/7 for it.

Cheers; Bela

It is a great building to take pictures of. I like the treatment of these. Nice job. And congratulations on your new camera.

It's indeed a beautiful architectural abstract, a difficult subject with certain type of buildings; your work here far exceeds the usual posted on the site.

However, since you're asking:

You could also try a slightly tighter crop, to eliminate the vertical line at the right side, thus emphasizing the abstraction. Also you could work a little with levels and curves, lightening the scene a bit, while maintaining or augmenting the texture just a notch.....anyway, it really doesn't need it, I just think you could experiment with it and see if you like it more or not. Cheers!

Thanks, Juan Carlos! Exactly the kind of feedback I'm looking for. I am SO bad with curves. I'll try to play with it a bit ... but am concerned that I'd only make it worse rather than better. :-) And I agree with you about the crop. Don't even know why it didn't occur to me until you said it.

Thanks for your visit and input, all three of you!
