Good shapes and textures and tones here, Doug.

Do you have the color shot? Could you do something extreme with the levels and/or color balance to get something really funky and abstract with this? Hmmm....

i have a collection of rocks, much like these, tumbled smooth in Lake Superior. i have been carting them around since i was a kid. we moved once when i was fourteen. my dad carried a couple of shoeboxes to my room and asked "what do you have in these? rocks?!!!!" was he ever mad!!!! but i still have those same rocks all these years later.

That's funny. These rocks were sitting in a planter outside a fancy furniture store. I wish they were my rocks, because they're pretty and would look nice in my condo. Then again, I guess rocks aren't all that hard to come by and I could probably pick some up.

Yes, Linda, it reminds me of a shot I took at Lake Ontario at Oswego back in '73. Except mine had a dead shining silvery fish at one end.

A bit more contrast would help, especially in the shadows.

Thanks, Ray. I did a version with more contrast at first, but it just didn't look like it had to my naked eye. While I see the value in contrast, I found the steady but subtle shifts in grays here to be soothing. But maybe I'm wrong. I'll post the alternate version to see what you and others think. I appreciate you weighing in.

Looking at it again, I think you're right. The smoothness of the gray gradations is much easier to look at.
