'The Thing' is at once part of the title of a movie and the

description of this creature who lives at night on this bus bench and

shelter in mid-winter Los Angeles, shelterd by a heap of blankets,

with five or so wheeled luggage bags tied together for security.

Please do not make this a plebiscite on whether or not you approve of

photos of homeless people -- they are there where we see them -- but

on the merits of the photo itself and the aesthetic and originality

of how this photo subject is portrayed. Your ratings and critiques

are invited and most welcome. If you rate harshly or very

critically, please submit a helpful and constructive comment; please

share your superior photographic knowledge to help improve my

photography. Thanks! Enjoy (or at least be edified)! John

The first post of this (an entirely different capture) was more tightly cropped in the camera, then cropped some more to avoid what was felt as a 'distracting' movie title on the poster as well as a distracting background.

Here, this second photo of this scene harmonizes the name on the poster 'The Thing' with the human buried under these clothes and blankets -- also 'the thing', for we do not know age, sex, or anything else about this person except he/she is unfortunate and somehow 'making a home of it' in the middle of one of the world's largest cities, and with some ingenuity, even if this person apparently is penniless.

(This is apparently becoming a folder on LA's nighttime bus shelter/benches).

I find it interesting how much this photo correlates to your photo "Metro Riders"; both subjects hidden in their own world, protected by barriers. One is humorous, one is sad. Thank you for sharing. :)

I am pleased and delighted that you should study and know my work so well that you can even make such a comparison.

It indeed is very apt, and I am indebted to you for spotting the similarity/dissimilarity between the two photos.

Kudos to you for a great comparison.
