Somehow I too like this BW version over coloured. Not that coloured version was "bad". I just think that in this photolight and shadows, tones and contrast are excellent and let us concentrate better for details, shapes and architecture. Composition is fine and details sharp. So yes, I am little bit jealous... No ratings, since I do not them anymore. a s l a

This is a family tomb at Lakeview Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio. This cemetery is well known not only for the famous people buried here such as John D Rockefeller the grounds are magnificent. Thanks for your input because I was up in the air about printing either this one or the color version for a show. I'm going with the B&W version.

Best regards

I applicate the input. I went back to Lakeview yesterday morning. We had a nice coating of snow that hung on the trees the night before. I was hoping for gray conditions but the sky cleared as soon as I got there. I did get a very nice capture that will be forthcoming.

Best regards

Well...we all get a lucky shot now and then. What's the phrase? "...Even a stopped clock is right twice a day..." ;0)

7/7 from me, Ol' buddy. Regards.

My mother always said "It's better to be lucky than good." I for one will not dispute that luck plays an important role in a good photo. Persistence and conditions should also be added. I've shot this scene every winter for the passed three years using the same camera though a difference lens this year. This is the only one of all of those shots that deserves to be in my permanent portfolio. After I shot this it took me three return trips to Lakeview Cemetery to get one more good shot for my "Dead of Winter" poster and that shot does not have the impact as this one.

When I think of luck and photography it always reminds me of Joe Rosenthal the photographer who captured the famous Iwo Jima flag-raising photo. He did not even know what he shot at first. Rosenthal is quoted as saying "It was like shooting a football game. You never knew what you got on film." I believe it is the most reproduced photo of all time.

I have decided that I'm going submit this in the Erie Shores Photo Competition under the pictorial category. By the way you were right anything submitted to the competition has to be taken within the last two years so I will not be submitting my bird shot titled "Bookends." Perhaps I'll try with one of my newer Gehry shots for my second entry or the wide shot from the South Chagrin series from last Fall.
